Description

The Five laws of library science is a theory proposed by S. R. Ranganathan in 1931, detailing the principles of operating a library system. Many librarians worldwide accept them as the foundations of their philosophy. Ironically, Ranganathan’s influence on library classification may turn out to be indirect, despite his prominent role within the discipline. Although extremely influential, his colon classification system has not been widely implemented by librarians outside of India. His work around facet analysis has been more widely adopted. The present volume attempts to make an assessment of his philosophy and works and to study their relevance in transfer and use of information in the changing world of knowledge society.
